  • 2 pounds ground beef lean
  • 1 large onion chopped
  • 1 large bell pepper chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 0.5 teaspoons paprika
  • 0.25 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 can crushed tomatoes (28 ounces)
  • 1 can tomato paste (6 ounces)
  • 1 can kidney beans (15 ounces, drained and rinsed)
  • 1 can black beans (15 ounces, drained and rinsed)
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon salt or to taste
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper freshly ground
  • 1 bunch cilantro chopped, for garnish

Instructions

Preparation Steps

  • In a large pot over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain any excess fat.
  • Add the onion, bell pepper, and garlic to the pot. Cook until the vegetables are tender, about 5 minutes.
  • Stir in the chili powder, cumin, oregano, paprika, cayenne, salt, and black pepper. Cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  • Pour in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, kidney beans, black beans, and beef broth. Stir well to combine.
  • Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and simmer for 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
  • Adjust seasoning to taste. Serve hot, garnished with chopped cilantro.

Notes

For a spicier chili, increase the cayenne pepper. Serve with shredded cheese and sour cream for extra flavor.
