Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 2 pounds collard greens washed and chopped
  • 0.5 pound smoked ham hock
  • 4 cups chicken broth or more as needed
  • 1 large onion diced
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt to taste
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper freshly ground

Instructions

Preparation Steps

  • In a large pot, cook the onion and garlic in a bit of oil until soft.
  • Add the smoked ham hock and chicken broth to the pot, bringing to a boil.
  • Reduce to a simmer, add the collard greens, and cook until tender, about 45-60 minutes.
  • Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Serve hot.

Notes

Feel free to adjust the seasoning as desired. Adding a splash of vinegar at the end gives a nice tangy flavor.
