Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb beef sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 0.5 cup soy sauce low sodium preferred
  • 0.25 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp mirin Japanese sweet rice wine
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 tsp cornstarch mixed with 1 tbsp water

Instructions

Preparation Steps

  • In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, mirin, garlic, and ginger to prepare the teriyaki sauce.
  • Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add sliced beef and cook until browned, about 3-4 minutes.
  • Pour the teriyaki sauce over the beef and bring to a simmer. Stir occasionally for 4 minutes until the beef is cooked through.
  • Mix the cornstarch slurry into the skillet and cook until the sauce thickens, about 1-2 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and serve the teriyaki beef strips over steamed rice or noodles.

Notes

For a spicier kick, add red pepper flakes in step 1. Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds for extra flavor.
