Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 2 cup fresh strawberries, hulled
  • 0.5 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup fresh lemon juice from about 6 lemons
  • 2 cup cold water
  • 1 cup whiskey (bourbon or rye)
  • 4 cup ice cubes
  • 1 cup club soda optional, for fizz
  • 0.5 cup sliced strawberries optional, for garnish
  • 4 slice lemon optional, for garnish
  • 4 sprig fresh mint optional, for garnish

Instructions

Preparation Steps

  • In a large pitcher, combine the strawberries and sugar. Stir well and let sit 5 minutes until the berries release some juice.
  • Transfer the strawberries and any juices to a blender. Add the lemon juice and 1.0 cup of the cold water. Blend until completely smooth.
  • Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve back into the pitcher, pressing on the solids to extract as much liquid as possible. Discard the pulp.
  • Stir in the whiskey and the remaining 1.0 cup cold water. Add the ice and stir until well chilled.
  • To serve, fill glasses with ice and pour the strawberry whiskey lemonade. Top each glass with a splash of club soda if desired and garnish with sliced strawberries, a lemon slice, and a mint sprig.
  • Taste and adjust to preference: add a bit more water for a lighter sip or a touch more sugar for extra sweetness.

Notes

Use a smooth bourbon for a rounder flavor or rye for a spicier kick. For make-ahead, prepare through straining and stir in whiskey just before serving. Keep the base chilled up to 24 hours.
