Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 box devil's food cake mix or any chocolate cake mix
  • 3 large eggs room temperature
  • 1.25 cups water
  • 0.5 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 package instant chocolate pudding mix 3.9 oz package
  • 2 cups cold milk
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup whipped topping optional for serving

Instructions

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  • Prepare the cake mix according to package instructions by combining the cake mix, eggs, water, and vegetable oil. Mix until well combined.
  • Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • While the cake bakes, whisk the pudding mix with cold milk until it begins to thicken, then set aside.
  • Once the cake is out of the oven, immediately poke holes all over the cake using the handle of a wooden spoon.
  • Pour the prepared pudding over the hot cake, aiming to fill the holes. Spread the pudding evenly with a spatula.
  • Allow the cake to cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least an hour.
  • For the ganache, heat the heavy cream in a saucepan until it begins to simmer, then pour over the chocolate chips in a bowl. Let sit for a minute before stirring to form a smooth ganache.
  • Spread the ganache over the chilled cake and refrigerate for another 20 minutes before serving.
  • Optionally, top with whipped topping before serving.

Notes

For an extra indulgent experience, serve with vanilla ice cream on the side.
