Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour sifted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cup unsweetened cocoa powder divided
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 0.25 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1.5 cups brown sugar
  • 1.25 cups boiling water

Instructions

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8x8 inch baking dish.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, 1/4 cup of cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  • Stir in the milk, vanilla extract, and melted butter until just combined.
  • Spread the batter into the prepared baking dish.
  • In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar and remaining 1/4 cup of cocoa powder. Sprinkle evenly over the batter.
  • Carefully pour the boiling water over the mixture in the pan. Do not stir.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes. The top should be set, but there will be a thick chocolate sauce underneath.
  • Allow the cobbler to cool for at least 15 minutes before serving. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream if desired.

Notes

This dessert is best served warm straight from the oven, allowing the gooey chocolate sauce to complement a scoop of vanilla ice cream perfectly.
