This comforting cheesy hamburger potato casserole is a perfect family meal with layers of seasoned ground beef, tender potatoes, and gooey cheese, making it a hearty dinner option.
In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain any excess fat.
Add chopped onion and minced garlic to the beef and cook until the onion is translucent.
In a separate saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute. Gradually whisk in milk, continuing to whisk until the mixture thickens.
Layer half of the sliced potatoes in a greased baking dish. Pour half of the sauce over the potatoes, then layer half the cooked beef mixture. Sprinkle with 1 cup of cheddar cheese.
Repeat layers with the remaining potatoes, sauce, beef mixture, and cheese. Finish with a layer of cheese on top.
Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes or until the potatoes are fork-tender.
Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes to brown the top.
Let the casserole cool for a few minutes before serving.

You can substitute ground beef with ground turkey for a healthier option.
